Let’s have some introduction on the . Italy is a country, which is located in the
southern side of Europe, formally recognized as ‘Republic of Italy’. Around this country there
are Switzerland, Slovenia, France and Austria in the north side along with the Alps Mountains.
In the southern side there is Mediterranean Sea, where Sicily and Sardinia are the largest
islands among many other islands such as, Capri, Elba, Lipari and the Ischia Islands. The Italian
peninsula makes different bodies of water known as Ionian Sea, Adriatic Sea, Ligurian Sea and
the Tyrrhenian Sea. Most of the area of Italy is covered by the seas. So, it has a long coastline
extended up to 7,600 km.

The total area covered by this country is approximately 301,278 sq km positioning at 4705/29// to
3539/26// of the northern latitudes and the 637/32// to 1831/13// of eastern longitudes. The largest
city if Italy is Rome which is the capital of this country. Venice and Milan are the other two most
important cities. There are two independent enclaves namely as San Marino and Vatican are
situated on the mainland of Italy

The meaning of “Italy”, to its people, is “Beautiful country”. A tourist to Italy cannot make
himself denied the loveliness of its versatile landscape with the mix of hills and warm beaches.
Geographically, the backbone of the peninsula is the Apennine Mountains and they proceed to
the northwest to join with the Alps. Though the land of Italy is mainly craggy and hilly, there are
some plain lands and coastal lowlands too. The biggest river in Italy, named as ‘Po’, flows down
from the Alps and the Apennines. The Adige, the Arno and the Tiber share their flow along with
the Po.

The northern part of Italy is covered by the hills and mountains where the highest point is 4810
meters from sea level. Italy is one of the most beautiful countries in Europe and it is all time hot
favorite to the tourists.
